"This was a terrific book. It is a large coffee-table sized book with all color pictures and detailed meditations that follow the format of the Ignatius Spiritual Exercises. Note that the book is not attempting to catalog all Vatican art (there are hundreds of thousands of pieces). Instead, the author is choosing specific pieces of sacred art that follow a theme of events of salvation history and the beauty (and/or glory) of these events for followers of the faith.

This would be a great gift for any Christian and especially Catholic Christian who wants to meditate on the sweep of salvation history that culminates in the Resurrection, and the Hope (and, yes, the responsibilities) that this event signals.

Highly recommended."

  • This was purchased for our pastor. I was attracted by the classical art and the Jesuit spirituality. It seemed perfect for a priest who appreciates classical religious art and is an amazing spiritual leader. Most recently I purchased it for our convent. It's too good to pass up. With a Jesuit Pope in the Vatican, it seems right to experience the spirituality that formed the new Vicar of Christ. It's the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola and the best of religious art rolled into one presentation.

    Highly recommended.
  • This book has wonderful pictures and meditations that offer insight well beyond what the average viewer of this art would see and comprehend. Together these meditations add up to an Ignatius retreat that I have found to be quite inspiring and uplifting. For those of you less interested in the retreat aspect, the meditations provide a lot of insight into the art and what the artist was conveying. I bought a second copy to circulate to some friends. For a book with beautiful color photos of the art, it was surprising inexpensive. Can't recommend it highly enough. It was well packed, shipped in a timely manner, and appropriately described.
  • I just received this book yesterday and have had time to read the introduction and the first days meditation but I am so impressed that I've ordered three more to give as gifts to our priest, bishop and my mother. I love the beautiful photographs and a small amount of art history, but the Ignation Spirituality is especially helpful in meditation. I love every part of this book.
  • Meditating on this Vatican Art while following the Ignatius Spiritual exercises is a huge boost for the soul! Great idea for a book, great christmas, birthday or any day gift for a loved one!
  • Such a beautiful book, the pictures are wonderful. The author gives great descriptions of each painting and questions to ponder over.
  • Wonderful book for prayer.
  • I do love the book and the whole idea of the book. My problem is that the type is difficult for me to read. My vision has taken a turn and I usually rely on books and computer screens. So I'm reading a chapter a day as part of my daily meditations but wish that there were more pictures and larger print.
