"Having established his characters this book starts to create a deeper world, giving context to why the monsters keep coming out of the other world and adding another layer to the dangers our heroes face. I had worried that this might be a monster of the week series but with this one there is promise of an overlaying story arc. Great work!"

Summoner 3 Audible Audio Edition Eric Vall Joshua Story Books Reviews
- I had a hard time finishing this book, I never got hooked and at the end I felt like I had read a lot and nothing at all at the same time.
The plot is all over the place, there’s three or four action sequences hastily putted together and without much thought. There are some serious plot devices that come out of the blue and they aren’t never properly explained. There are some huge chunks of the book that need a proper proofreading because they seriously don’t make any sense. For example all the plot with Varleth is a mess; they go back and forth without reason and the mission/punishment at the pub is a very poor excuse to put them together to further they friendship… it's forced and cringeworthy.
There are a lot of repetitions of the same idea or dialogue (internal and external) within a chapter or in some consecutive chapters, it's poorly written.
I probably will read one more, but if continues like this I’ll give up this series. I really like the first books from this author, but his sequels are very bad, and they get worse the more books he makes. - First book was best, second was good but had it's flaws, this most recent book was alright, but lacked severely in story and character development. It has both, but no where near the amount it could have. It's still a good action series, though. Also, the sex was overblown in this one. I know some people only read these for the sex, but dang it all, I was actually interested in the story. And it seems to be falling more and more out of focus with each book. A few more like this and I doubt I'll keep reading the series or the author, just due to falling interest. This wasn't a bad book; it just wasn't as good as the first or even the second book.
- I want this series to be awesome. It has great characters, cool skills/powers, but my god is the sex just poured on top with little to no resistance. There’s no teasing at all, and it’s worse now in the third book cause all the women are just down with being in a Harem of sorts with a guy who NEVER loses.
The protagonist is pouring so much “seed†into these women it’s a wonder non of them are pregnant already. The story needs to have some diversity. Creatures got smarter, a few new combinations, but there is no mystery. Every chapter is predictable, and the outcome more so.
Do better this is just terrible.
Joshua Story is awesome as usual. Just sad his talents are wasted on this. - With the exception of the quick ending, which kind of made me do a double take at how things ended up transpiring, the book overall was a good entry. Love the continued nuances of the building harem, which is tastefully done considering most of the characters are borderline military. Loved all the characters, as unrealistic as these trope's tend to be they were entertaining to say the least.
No major cons, but I'm taking note of the mystery behind the scenes backstory, I would offer caution in the development of it. The "hinky-ness" is to the point where if there's no development one way or the other the series may begin to be difficult to read. - Author said he believes this to be his best one so far.
Since this is told from the MC's point of view you kind of know he survives but you also worry about his friends because they can be harmed. Enjoyed the harem development.
The magic gets more fleshed out and the monster side develops intelligence. The very foundation on which the humans survival depends on is put into question.
Can't w as it for #4.
One of the few authors I buy as soon as he puts something out. Got all his books, haven't been disappointed. - Eric Vall does it again with Summoner 3. In this book we learn that not all monsters are "dumb" and we get to meet new people. This is my favorite series by Eric and I can't wait to read the next in the series.
- The first two books were better, in that there was more character development and build up. Book three exercises the formula used in the first two books, but lacked development and detail. Gryff and Nia’s relationship progressed but other than a similar fighting monster formula, not much else happened. Book 4 is on my radar.
- Having established his characters this book starts to create a deeper world, giving context to why the monsters keep coming out of the other world and adding another layer to the dangers our heroes face. I had worried that this might be a monster of the week series but with this one there is promise of an overlaying story arc. Great work!
